HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?
This intro to DIY course lasts for two hours.
WHAT SKILLS WILL THEY LEARN?
• Proper sawing techniques using Japanese saws
• Accurate marking and measuring with set squares
• Safe and precise cutting of straight and angled pieces
• Effective use of an electric hand drill
• Identifying drill bits and selecting the right one for the job

ABOUT THE COURSE:
During this engaging course, we'll focus on teaching two essential skills that form the foundation of any maker's toolkit.
First, we'll dive into the art of proper sawing techniques using Japanese saws. Your child will learn how to handle a saw with precision, make accurate measurements, and safely execute straight cuts and angled cuts. With these skills, they'll be well-equipped to bring their woodworking projects to life.
Next, we'll introduce them to the world of electric hand drills. Our experienced instructor will guide them through the safe and proper use of drills, emphasising the importance of selecting the right drill bits for different tasks. They'll learn about various screw types, countersinking techniques, and everything they need to know to confidently start building their own projects. Once you have these skills, the possibilities are endless!
The knowledge gained in this course forms the bedrock of all DIY projects. By mastering these essential skills, your child will gain confidence in their abilities and develop problem-solving skills that extend far beyond the workshop.

This course is run in our workshop in Crondall, just off the A287 on the Hampshire/Surrey border. We are extremely proud of the Ash & Co workshop and offer a safe and friendly environment that welcomes all ages and genders to share in our passion for making.
