Develop your woodworking skills on our Introduction to Woodwork Level Two course!

Perfect as a follow on from our Level One course or for woodworkers with some previous experience, this one-day workshop will develop your hand tool woodworking and carpentry skills and introduce you to intermediate-level techniques.

This course assumes that you can saw straight and true, set-up and sharpen a hand plane and use it to square edges. If you don’t have these skills yet, please book our Level One course first.

The aim of this course is to teach you how to start designing and making your own projects from scratch. We’ll cover basic design, wood movement, grain direction, making drawings, cut lists and proper planning. We’ll show you a variety of hand planes and use plough planes to cut grooves and use chisels and router planes to fit hinges.

We’ll use marking gauges, bench hooks, gents saws, chisels, hand planes and a variety of other tools until you’re comfortable using them properly.

You will use these skills throughout the day to craft a beautiful pine box with fitted brass hinges you can take home. You’ll put all the skills you’ve learned into practice so you can recreate them on a million other projects at home, so come and join us and take your carpentry to the next level at Ash & Co.

ABOUT THE COURSE:
The Ash & Co Introduction to Woodworking Level Two course is designed to improve your carpentry skills and take you to the next step on your woodworking journey.

To start the day, you will learn how to work through the design of the pine box project from start to finish so that you can apply these skills to anything you would like to make in the future.

You’ll then get hands-on with a whole range of tools to make your box whilst enhancing and honing your woodworking skills.

You will learn how to use a high-quality Gents saw and how to use chisels and marking gauges to make perfect cuts every time.

You’ll use your saw and chisels to create simple but strong rebated butt joints for your box.

We’ll show you how to use a bench hook and shooting board and how to use a hand plane to smooth out end-grain and edges.

During the day you will get to grips with a range of planes including plough planes and router planes, with lots of opportunity to practice your sharpening skills too.

You will bring all these skills together to make a lovely pine box, finished by properly fitting hinges with chisels and adding a lovely wood finish at the end.

This course is thoughtfully crafted by Jonty, our woodworking expert, who is passionate about sharing his knowledge.
