Make a Bee House

Build a lovely wooden bee house and support your local bees!

Calling all woodworking and nature enthusiasts! Join us for this beginners woodworking course where children aged 8 and above can create their very own bee house. Not only will you learn new skills, have a go with hand tools and have fun building you'll also contribute to the well-being of local bee populations. Win-win!

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
This woodworking course is suitable for children aged 8 and above.
• One bench space per maker
• No prior experience is required
• Accompanying adults are free-of-charge

HOW LONG IS THE COURSE?
This woodworking course for kids runs for 1.5 hours

WHAT SKILLS WILL I LEARN?
• Basic woodworking techniques using real wood
• Proper use of hand tools, including hammers, pillar drill and clamps
• Assembling and gluing the bee house components
• Adding a hanging bracket for easy installation
• Painting techniques

ABOUT THE COURSE:
On this course, you will work with solid pine to build your very own bee house. You will get to have a go with a pillar drill and learn how to carefully create holes in the wood, providing cozy nesting spaces for the bees.

Under the guidance of our experienced instructor, you will learn beginner woodworking skills including the proper use of hammers, nails, clamps and glue for secure assembly. We'll finish by attaching a hanging bracket, allowing the bee house to be easily hung on any tree, fence, or suitable location in your garden.

Once the project is built, you will have the option to add a personal touch by painting the roof of the bee house in a vibrant colour of your choice.

At the end of the course you will take home your completed bee house — a beautiful and functional addition to your garden or outdoor space.

This course is run in our workshop in Crondall, just off the A287 on the Hampshire/Surrey border. We are extremely proud of the Ash & Co workshop and offer a safe and friendly environment that welcomes all ages and genders to share in our passion for making.
