ABOUT THE COURSE:
In just one, really enjoyable day, you'll discover the secrets of DIY you’ve been desperate to know. You’ll learn how to properly use a drill and understand fully which funny shaped but to put in the end of it. Then, practice, practice, practice until you’re truly confident.

You’ll learn how to choose the right tools at the DIY shop and drill into wood, metal, and masonry like a seasoned pro. Say goodbye to guessing what's behind your walls before drilling – it's all part of the package.

Learn how to hang shelves and curtain rails like a pro, using the correct wall fixings and levelling techniques. Learn how to attach things together properly to make shelves, cupboards, boxes, planters – the world is yours!   

Once you’re comfortable with your newfound skills, we’ll practice drilling into a plasterboard wall, drill into bricks/concrete and show you how to avoid those water pipes and electrics! 

The DIY in a Day course is suitable for DIY beginners of all ages. It’s the perfect introduction to everything DIY and you will leave the workshop with a set of skills that will last a lifetime.

In this hands on course, you will be using the following tools:
• Cordless drill driver and hammer drill
 SDS drill
 Impact driver
 Drill bits of all kinds
 Countersink drill bits
 Spirit levels/Laser level
Stud detectors
 Brick, concrete and plasterboard wall fixings of all kinds

THE VENUE:
The Ash & Co. workshop is a super friendly, fun and relaxed environment that welcomes all ages and all genders to share in our passion for making. We want you to leave the workshop happy, content and full of knowledge that you didn’t have before. 

We’re there with you to offer advice every step of the way and always have time to answer all your questions.  All tools, materials and safety equipment are provided on the course and complimentary tea, coffee and water are available throughout the day.

Beginner DIY Course Frequently Asked Questions:

Is this course ok for beginners?
Yes. This DIY course for beginners is designed for people with little or no DIY experience. We start with the basics and guide you step by step so you can learn safely and build confidence with real tools.

I’ve never picked up a drill before. Will that be a problem? 
Not at all. Many people join our DIY workshop having never used an electric drill before. We show you exactly how drills work, what the settings mean and how to use them properly, then you get plenty of hands-on practice.

Is the course suitable for women?
Absolutely. Our DIY skills course is designed for everyone. Many of our students are women who want to feel confident tackling everyday DIY jobs around the home.

Is the course suitable for men?
Yes. The workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn practical DIY skills, everyone is welcome.

What age do I need to be to attend?
Participants must be 16 or over, but there is no upper age limit at all. We regularly welcome people in their 50s, 60s and beyond who want to finally learn the DIY basics for homeowners.

Is the workshop warm or cold?
Our workshop is comfortable throughout the year. It’s heated in winter and has air conditioning to keep things pleasant in warmer months.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
Just your lunch and willingness to learn! Everything else you need for the DIY training workshop is provided. 

What should I wear?
Just wear comfortable clothes you don’t mind getting a bit dusty and closed-toe shoes. 

Are tools provided?
Yes. All tools, materials, drills, screws and fixings are supplied. You’ll use proper equipment during the hands-on DIY course so you can practise safely and confidently.

Do you provide tea and coffee? 
Yes, we have a tea and coffee station and you are welcome to help yourself throughout the course.

Do you provide lunch? 
No, we ask participants to bring their own food for the day. We take a break for lunch and the workshop is within a few minutes drive of a Co-op or Marks & Spencer garage if you would prefer to buy your lunch on the day.

Are you friendly and supportive? 
Definitely. At Ash & Co Workshops we're known for being relaxed, welcoming and encouraging. We keep groups small so everyone gets plenty of help and guidance.

How many people will be on the beginners DIY workshop?
We have a maximum of 10 participants on this course with an average of 6 or 7 people at most sessions, meaning you have plenty of opportunity to ask all your questions and get lots of one-to-one guidance and help. 

Honestly, I’m rubbish with this sort of thing. Is this really for me?
Yes, that’s exactly who the course is for! Many people arrive feeling unsure about DIY, but by the end of the day they’ve learned how to use a drill, understand screws and fixings, and feel confident tackling everyday jobs at home.
